DRAIN THE GEAR CASE
MATERIAL REQUIRED:
- 2 drain plugs
- 1 oil can
- 1 oil pump
- 1 large screwdriver
- 1 clean cloth
- 1 recovery pan
- 1 piece of cardboard
- 1 pair of gloves
FOOT ON THE MOTOR:
- Let the motor run for about 15 minutes.
- Remove the kill switch or the ignition key.
- Caution, the oil is hot: wearing gloves is highly recommended.
REMOVING THE FOOT:
- There is no need to perform the oil change if the ambient temperature is below 10°C.
- Place a piece of cardboard under the motor to catch any oil drips.
- Position the recovery pan under the foot to collect the used oil.
- Unscrew the bottom plug first, then the top one (marked OIL, the other marked WASH).
- Let the oil drain for about 15 minutes if it’s hot, or 30 minutes if it’s cold.
- Choose the oil based on the manufacturer's recommendations.
- Clean the drain plugs with a clean, lint-free cloth.
- Remove and replace the drain plug seals.
The drain plugs are generally magnetic to make retrieval easier. If you notice metal shavings on the plugs, it may indicate abnormal wear of the transmission. It’s advisable to have the transmission inspected by a professional if necessary.
REFILLING THE FOOT:
- Use the drain pump to fill the foot from the bottom.
- Once the oil starts to flow out the top, let it drain a little to remove any air bubbles before sealing the plugs.
ADDITIONAL TIPS:
- Inspection: Clean the foot thoroughly to check for any leaks or anomalies.
- Extra checks:
- Inspect the condition of the propeller shaft seal.
- Unscrew and grease the anode bolts.
- Grease the propeller shaft.
- Check and grease the water pump and its impeller.
- Clean the water intake grills.
ENVIRONMENTAL CAUTION:
Used oil is a highly polluting waste and harmful to the environment. It is important to properly collect it in a can and take it to an authorized recycling center.
